How does Acupuncture work? There are many frequently asked questions about acupuncture that Western medicine cannot explain. Traditional acupuncture is based on the theory of the flow of Qi (energy) and Xue (blood) through distinct meridians or pathways that cover the body like nerves and vessels do. Acupuncture allows Qi to flow to areas where it is deficient and away from where it is excess. Also if yin and yang are imbalanced then Qi cannot flow. The goal of acupuncture is to restore harmonious energetic balance of the body. Acupuncture treats the body and its imbalances thereby going directly to the cause rather than just the symptom.

How are the imbalances determined? Chinese medicine practitioners diagnose by employing four basic examinations. The first is questioning and taking a complete history. The second is visual inspection especially of the tongue and its coating. The third is listening to one’s voice and breathing. The fourth is palpating the pulses at both wrists. At InMotion the doctors also employ a modern state of the art electronic graphing device called the MEAD which gives a picture of the energy and is used to complete the diagnostics.

MEAD-MERIDIAN ELECTRONIC ACUPUNCTURE DEVICE

MEAD is a software program that the doctors at InMotion are using to assess the Bioenergetic distribution of your body energy, mental state,  musculoskeletal system, metabolism and autonomic nervous system. The colorful graphs depict meridian analysis, Yin-Yang and Blood-Qi balance along with a composite energetic index. Recommendations are then made for acupuncture treatments along with herbal prescriptions, supplements and dietary advice.

This is a highly sophisticated technology that is currently in use all over China by modern practitioners of Chinese medicine and the doctors are very excited to be using it to complement their assessments which consist of pulse and tongue diagnosis.
Dr Fitelson has been studying herbology and is adding herbal formulas to the already effective Acupuncture treatment plans. The practice of herbology is 3000 years old and deeply rooted in the fundamentals of TCM, traditional Chinese medicine. Compounded to pharmaceutical grade standards, the herbal formulas are made in Taiwan and certified pure. These formulas amplify and expand on the results that can be achieved through the practice of Acupuncture. The formulas are specifically targeting the balance of the entire person to both eliminate the immediate symptoms and the root cause of disease.

four different types of acupuncture

The discipline and or philosophy of Acupuncture started centuries ago with pressure on points that helped certain conditions, especially pain. The points are on meridians known as conduits of energy and when there is congestion, or lack of flow at that point, pain, disease or dis-ease appears. The name Acupuncture is a misnomer as it implies puncture only. In reality these points can be stimulated and therefore relieved of congestion, with various modalities very effectively.

This short video demonstrates four different types of acupuncture used at InMotion Health Center, three of which are needle-less acupuncture.
  1. Sterile Needles
  2. Teishin (spring loaded device, needle-less acupuncture)
  3. Low level Laser (needle-less acupuncture)
  4. Shiatsu/Acupressure (needle-less acupuncture)
